WORLDWIDE STUDIO SCORECARD.  Universal’s year to date versus last week is negative despite the addition of Crimson Peak this weekend.  The overseas total for Everest was over-stated last week and has been corrected in the studio table below and the individual film ranking at the bottom of the post.  Still, Universal remains a dominant #1, with a lead of historic proportions.

YEAR TO DATE BOX OFFICE. Looking at North American box office, 2015 to date is still +6% above last year and still +3% above the average for this point the past four years ($7.736 billion).  Over the same period, Hollywood films have grossed over $20.5 billion worldwide when we add overseas box office (that’s now +4% ahead of the comparable worldwide box office last year at this stage).

A reminder: we define the start of each year as the first Monday after New Year’s Day, and our year ends on the Sunday after New Year’s Day the following calendar year.  (The most recent week’s numbers are based on weekend estimates, which are usually at worst a couple of percentage points off from the final weekend tallies.)

The past six weeks in North America are now up +6% from the same period last year  (reduced growth from recent weeks: +10% pace last week and the +11% pace two weeks ago) and now +16% above the four-year average for the similar six-week period ($0.779 billion).
