Weekend Box Office Predictions: 1.8-10.2016

Weekend #2 of 2016 is looking like a very good $155 million for the top 12 films this weekend (see comparisons below).

The Revenant from Fox should open with $27.5 million Friday-Sunday. The film is on track for around $85 million domestic in its run. Overseas the film could bring in $160 million, giving it a worldwide box office target of $245 million.    

The Forest from Focus should open with $9.0 million Friday-Sunday. The film is on track for around $16 million domestic in its run. Overseas the film could bring in $19 million, giving it a worldwide box office target of $35 million.

For the past four years, the top 12 films this weekend have averaged $117 million total, ranking 33rd of 52 weeks. Last year, this weekend’s total was $110 million (while 2014 was $122 million, 2013 was $121 million and 2012 was $115 million). This Friday-Sunday is looking like a very good $155 million, up +32% from the multi-year average for the comparable weekend and up +41% from the same weekend last year.
