But first:

NETWORK UPDATE:  AMERICA’S GOT TALENT and FOOD FIGHTERS exchanged 0.1s in final numbers, with AGT gaining the additional tenth at FOOD FIGHTERS’ expense.

Below is our Top 25 chart of last night’s original cable telecasts (the #25 title on this list was the 80th-most watched cable telecast of the day), with various key demos noted.  A green box indicates particular strength for a show in that demo; red is a less cheery result.  See below for some context and analysis:

SHARK WEEK extravaganzas continue to dominate the week for Discovery, with both of last night’s top shows part of the festivities, ALIEN SHARKS RETURN at 1.43 and LAIR OF THE MEGA SHARK at 1.29.   On TNT, both RIZZOLI & iSLES and PERCEPTION were up nearly a tenth at 1.01/0.60.  PRETTY LITTLE LIARS (ABCFamily) lost half a tenth from last week to 0.90, but it continued to own the young female audience with a giant 2.42.  It was followed by the summer finale of CHASING LIFE, which showed some strength by rising nearly a tenth to 0.57, with a 1.39 in Females 12-34–its chances for survival may be improved by today’s cancellation of the previous post-PRETTY LITTLE LIARS series, TWISTED.  The other young-skewing show of the night, MTV’s FINDING CARTER, fell 0.07 to 0.40, and was also below CHASING LIFE in the young woman demo at 1.11.  TYRANT (FX) was up almost a tenth to 0.59.  On USA, ROYAL PAINS lost a tenth to 0.48, and COVERT AFFAIRS failed to make the list (we’ll try to provide that show’s info when we can) but was at a steady 0.34 in the demo, with 1.6M total viewers.  DRUNK HISTORY (Comedy Central) was very steady at 0.55, but NATHAN FOR YOU was down almost a tenth to 0.26, with 424K total viewers.  Also notable:  HBO’s HARD KNOCKS was at 0.4 in the 18-49 demo with 677K total viewers, even though HBO is in only 1/3 of US households.  Some other unscripted shows at the top:  History’s COUNTING CARS, up about half a tenth from last week at 0.76/0.75, and CHOPPED TEENS (Food) at 0.71 and BAD GIRLS CLUB (Oxygen) at 0.70.
