>A lot of repeats on the air last night, but that will change tonight as the four-week May Sweep begins tonight, ushering in 28 nights of almost all-original programming.  American Idol wins another Wednesday for FOX, on track to round up to a 4.7 rating in the official nationals later today (still a season low for the singing competition).

             Nightly Adult 18-49 Rating
Wednesday    FOX    CBS    ABC    NBC
04.25.2012   4.6    2.0    1.8    1.2    THIS WEEK
04.18.2012   4.8    2.0    2.4    1.1    LAST WEEK
04.27.2011   5.9    2.3    1.8    1.9    LAST YEAR

FOX’s American Idol averaged a 4.6 rating with Adults 18-49 in the fast nationals, probably headed for a 4.7 in the official nationals (which would be down another tenth of a rating point from last week).  And if the final rating is a 4.7, Idol‘s advantage over this week’s Voice performance episode would be (0.9 of a rating), slightly lower than last week’s season high 1.1 rating point advantage.  In case you missed it, check out our season review of Idol and Voice ratings, including our forecast for their season finales.  Last year on this night, American Idol aired 90 minutes (7.1) followed by Breaking In (2.4).

Half of ABC’s schedule was filled with repeat episodes (8:00-9:30 pm), and having its most important Wednesday show in repeat (Modern Family) brought Don’t Trust the B- in Apt 23 and Revenge down to season lows (both at a 2.0 preliminary rating with young adults).  The ABC Wednesday schedule will be back on track next week with all-new episodes, as the May sweep kicks off tonight.  Last year on this night: The Middle repeat (1.3), Better with You (1.5), Modern Family repeat (2.0), Cougar Town (2.1), Happy Endings (2.1) and Modern Family repeat (1.6).

CBS was fairly similar to last week with an original Survivor and repeat crime dramas.  Survivor will probably be adjusted up to a 2.7 rating in the official nationals, which would match its season low set two weeks ago.  Last year on this night: Survivor (3.2), Criminal Minds repeat (2.0) and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior repeat (1.7).

NBC Wednesday was up one tenth from last week (from a fourth place 1.1 to a fourth place 1.2 last night).  All credit goes to Rock Center with Brian Williams, which is currently up three tenths of a rating point from last week (from a 0.6 and a tie with The CW’s America’s Next Top Model to sole possession of fourth place in the 9 pm hour with a 0.9 rating).  But it’s not exactly a cause for celebration, as the news magazine remains 50% behind third place (a 1.8 for the Criminal Minds repeat on CBS).  Last year on this night: Inside the Royal Wedding (1.2) and The Voice repeat 9-11 pm (2.2).
