The Sked: Tuesday Week 6

NBC cruised to a commanding 4.0 rating with adults 18-49 last night, thanks to an extra hour of The Voice and a benching of the comedies.  CBS finished in second place with a 2.6 rating, where the network seems to have settled on Tuesday nights.  FOX and ABC continue their Tuesday collapses, however, averaging under a 2 rating each with comedies that are not working.

NBC ‘s The Voice aired for two hours last night and averaged a very good 4.6 rating from 8-10 pm (the second best Tuesday Voice of the season).  Usually, we would expect The Voice rating to rise from the fast nationals to the official nationals, but the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy (with significant local pre-emptions) could cause the rating to decline somewhat in the officials.  An NBC News special on the Hurricane’s devastation averaged a very strong 2.9 rating at 10 pm, much better than what the originally scheduled comedies (Go On and New Normal) would have rated.

The CBS line-up of Tuesday dramas were very close to last week’s levels.  NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles are decent but way off last year’s pace, while Vegas has settled into a very unimpressive high-1 rating.

The dreadful Fox Tuesday comedy block continues to erode.  The high-water mark (New Girl) is now down to a low-2 rating, while Ben & Kate and Mindy Project battle to avoid the label of Worst Comedy on a Night of Underachievement.

But ABC has the true comedy bombs on Tuesday night, with both Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B– plunging to a low-1 rating.  Without Modern Family as a lead-in, these comedies have no chance.   At 10 pm, ABC aired a news special on Hurricane Sandy, like NBC.  However, the special 20/20 could only muster a 1.3 rating, thanks to the horrible lead-in from the comedy hour.
