>It’s the third week of the season and sampling starts to settle down and viewing patterns begin to emerge.  On Tuesday, New Girl remains the hit of the season, but other than that, the night is kind of blah.  FOX won with a good but not dominant 3.6 rating and CBS made it interesting with a 3.3.  Playing at a much lower level, ABC and NBC dueled at around a 2 rating.  And then The CW is headed for test pattern levels on the night.  Tuesday is kind of the season in miniature.

FOX scored another nightly victory last night, averaging a 3.6 Adult 18-49 rating.  Glee started the night with a 3.5, still down over a rating point from last year at this point.  The three-week track for the show is 4.0…3.7…3.5, a fairly typical trend for the shows on this night, where viewers seem a little bored with what is being offered.  New Girl maintains its status as the highest-rated show on the night (4.3), down a few tenths from last week but way ahead of last year’s pace in the time period.  Raising Hope is stabile week to week (2.9).  On this night last year (10.5.2010), FOX narrowly won the night with a 3.4 rating: Glee (4.6), Raising Hope (2.5) and Running Wilde (1.7).

CBS was #2 last night with a 3.3 rating.  Each drama was down one- or two-tenths from last week, and the 10 pm hour has quietly turned into a horse race.  Although Unforgettable is still winning the hour, its margin of victory has declined from seven-tenths of a rating point to three-tenths this week.  On this night last year, CBS was a close #2 with a 3.3 rating: NCIS (3.8), NCIS: LA (3.4) and The Good Wife (2.5).

NBC literally flatlined at a 2.0 rating last night — a 2.0 in all six half hours in primetime, a very consistent fourth-place performance.  A year ago on the third Tuesday of the season, NBC was #4 with a 2.4 rating: Biggest Loser (2.5) and Parenthood (2.1).

ABC was a weak third place with a 2.2 rating.  Although down from last season, the night has at least been stable week to week.  For example, the weekly track for Dancing with the Stars Results is 2.9…2.9…2.8.  Also, Body of Proof bounced back to a 2.1 last night after an atypical 1.8 last week.  On this night last year ABC was #3 with a 2.6 rating: No Ordinary Family (2.7), Dancing with the Stars Results (3.3) and Detroit 187 (1.7).

On The CW, both 90210 and Ringer are down to a very bad 0.6 rating.  Ringer has lost half its audience since its premiere (1.2 to a 0.6).  Yikes.
