UPDATED: THE SKED CABLE/NETWORK SCORECARD – 10/22/13

AFTERNOON UPDATE:  Not a lot of change in the adjusted numbers.  THE GOLDBERGS AND CHICAGO FIRE both held onto their ratings, despite starting 1 minute after the hour, while AGENTS OF SHIELD gained 0.1 (but was still down 0.1 from last week).  Also gaining 0.1 were THE VOICE and SUPERNATURAL.  Both NCIS LA and THE MINDY PROJECT went down 0.1.  (Note:  the fact that The Voice rose and NCIS LA fell, yet Person of Interest retained its win over Chicago Fire, makes that even more of an accomplishment.)

TUESDAY CABLE:  As has become the norm, whatever the back and forth among the broadcast networks at 10PM, the hour’s winner was SONS OF ANARCHY on FX, up 0.1 from last week to 2.4.  PRETTY LITTLE LIARS aired its Halloween special with a 1.4 (and much better among its target young woman demo, with a 4.3 in 12-34s).  That boosted the show’s spin-off RAVENSWOOD, which debuted with 0.9 (2.7 in females 12-34).  In 18-49s, that compares to a 0.6 for the premiere of THE FOSTERS in June.

A month into the season, Tuesdays are still very much in flux.

Daily Comparison 2013 Tue Oct 22 three way

NBC:  When NBC gave CHICAGO FIRE a weekly lead-in from THE VOICE, it was supposed to lift the procedural soap to a new ratings level.  It hasn’t worked out that way, and last night, for the first time this season, Person of Interest beat Fire despite the wide disparity in their lead-ins, as Fire tied its season low 2.1 (and if it started at 10:01PM, as shows that follow The Voice often do, it could fall to a new low this afternoon).  Combine that with THE BIGGEST LOSER dropping 0.3 to 2.0, and The Voice itself merely matching last week’s 4.0, and NBC currently leads the night by a slim 0.1.

ABC:  AGENTS OF SHIELD aired a pivotal episode last night, advancing the show’s serialized storyline and providing backstory for one of its central characters.  But the show continues to fall, down 0.2 to a new low 2.6.  THE GOLDBERGS is currently up 0.1 to 1.7, but it started last night at 9:01PM, so that bump may not last.  TROPHY WIFE is on the critical list, falling 0.1 to a new low 1.2, barely ahead of the 1.1 for the rerun of SHARK TANK that followed it.

FOX:  DADS was down 0.1 to 1.4, but BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, with probably its best post-pilot episode so far, was up 0.1 to 1.6.  NEW GIRL and THE MINDY PROJECT both held even at 1.8/1.4.

CBS:  The other networks jostle for position, and CBS quietly lies in wait.  NCIS is now the clear winner at 8PM, even down 0.1 from last week to 3.0, and NCIS LA was behind only The Voice, steady at 2.6.  As noted, PERSON OF INTEREST (which also featured a pivotal episode, setting up the season’s first mythology hour next week), took over the 10PM lead, even at 2.2.

CW:  THE ORIGINALS fell 0.2 from last week to 0.9, still a strong number for CW.  SUPERNATURAL held at 1.0.

THE WORLD SERIES begins tonight on FOX, and last year’s Game 1 had a 3.6 rating–but as Mitch Metcalf will explain in a post later today, that number can vary widely depending on the series match-up.  The Series will air against originals on all the other networks, including the final episode of IRONSIDE on NBC.
