UPDATED: THE SKED CABLE/NETWORK SCORECARD – 1/7/14

AFTERNOON UPDATE:  Nothing moved more than 0.1 from the morning numbers, with AGENTS OF SHIELD, NCIS and CHICAGO FIRE climbing that amount (the latter, still down for the week, moved into a tie with PERSON OF INTEREST at 10PM) while TROPHY WIFE sank to an even more woeful 1.1.

TUESDAY CABLE:  BET took the night’s original programming honors with a promising 1.5 for the series premiere of its BEING MARY JANE (although that was down 0.5 from its TV-movie pilot)  MARY JANE earned another 0.8 with an 11PM rebroadcast.  Behind that were 1.2s for MOONSHINERS on Discovery and the midseason premiere of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS on ABCFamily.   (LIARS was followed by 0.7 for its spin-off RAVENSWOOD.)  In other season premieres, JUSTIFIED (FX) was strong at 1.1 (down from last season’s premiere, but considerably up from the 0.7-0.9 range of most episodes), and COUGAR TOWN (TBS) stayed at 0.9, around where it was last year–and way down from the 1.6 lead-in it got from a BIG BANG THEORY rerun.  THE HAVES AND HAVE NOTS was at 0.9 on OWN.

EARLIER:

The networks went 1 for 2 with last night’s debuts.

Daily Comparison 2014 Tue Jan 07 three way

CBS:  INTELLIGENCE will have a much harder job on Monday, when it has to go toe-to-toe with The Blacklist.  But CBS got what it wanted out of last night’s “preview,” with a 2.4 rating, holding about as much of its NCIS lead-in (2.9, steady with its last new episode) as NCIS LA tends to do.  At 10PM, PERSON OF INTEREST won the hour at 2.0, holding even with its last new telecast.

ABC:  The network’s awful run continued with the launch of KILLER WOMEN, dead in the water at 0.9.  How bad was that?  It was lower than the 1.3 premiere of Lucky 7, which was canceled just a couple of weeks later.  AGENTS OF SHIELD was steady at 2.1, as was TROPHY WIFE at 1.2, while THE GOLDBERGS edged up 0.1 to 1.7.

FOX:  The only real news was bad for the network’s quartet of sitcoms, as NEW GIRL fell 0.3 to a season low 1.6.  The rest was incremental, with DADS up 0.1 to 1.5, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE down 0.1 to a matching 1.5, and THE MINDY PROJECT up 0.1 to 1.3.

NBC:  2 hours of THE BIGGEST LOSER were at 1.7, down 0.3 from the show’s last episode.  With a weaker lead-in than The Voice usually gives it, CHICAGO FIRE fell 0.3 to 1.9.

CW:  Reruns at 0.3/0.4.

NBC launches CHICAGO PD tonight, perhaps the first time a series with mediocre ratings has been deemed worthy of a spin-off.  It faces THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS on CBS, a meaningless awards show that garnered a solid 2.7 rating last year.  FOX airs the movie STEP BROTHERS.  On cable, PSYCH follows its recent musical special with its season debut for USA.
