The ratings for most network programs came back down to Earth in the official nationals (with the NFL preseason games filtered out of the early ratings, as we explained this morning).  As expected, Big Brother was least impacted (only down one tenth from this morning because CBS was able air it at 10 pm in the California markets that carried football), but other shows were hit hard: Big Bang Theory repeat (down six tenths from this morning), The Winner Is… (down five tenths), Hollywood Game Night (down four tenths), Rookie Blue (down three tenths) and New Girl repeat (down three tenths).  Collectively, the broadcast networks ended up the night down 13% from last week to a combined 4.1 adult 18-49 rating.  Pretty meager stuff.

The coverage of the NFL preseason on ESPN at 8:00 pm averaged a 1.2 rating nationally, while the top show on cable last night was Alien Sharks at 10 pm on Discovery (1.5 rating).  A solid rating but not up to the standards of the first two nights of Shark Week (Sunday and Monday).
