Wasting no time–and why should they?–NBC jumped on the strong ratings for last night’s first regular season episode of THE VOICE to renew the show for both Spring and Fall 2013.  The Spring renewal was a formality, since it had already been announced that Shakira and Usher would be joining the judges for that cycle, but the show is now guaranteed a Fall berth next season.

Glass-half-emptiers might note that the 3rd Monday episode of last Spring’s Voice scored a 5.3 in the ratings, while last night’s parallel episode was down almost a full rating point to 4.4–but for NBC, a 4.4 is manna from heaven, and at this point, the network doesn’t care very much if they risk wearing their golden goose out faster than strictly necessary.
