>CBS rode a preliminary 13.7 Adult 18-49 rating from 7:00-8:17 pm last night for the prime time portion of the Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos wild card playoff game.  The official rating for that segment will rise to a 15 or more in the official nationals tomorrow. 60 Minutes (from 8:17-9:17) scored a preliminary 4.0, almost hitting a season high.  That number will probably go down to a 3.9 in the officials.  Though not winning their time periods, the dramas Good Wife and CSI Miami set or tied season highs last night.  Last year, CBS had the early afternoon wild card game and the 7-11 pm evening averaged a 2.2 — last night will be over a 6 rating, depending on how much the NFL game goes up in the official national ratings.

ABC returned its Sunday night lineup without having to battle NBC’s Sunday Night Football.  The night started sluggishly at 7 pm with America’s Funniest Home Videos matching a season low, buried by AFC Wild Card game on CBS.  But Once Upon a Time returned strongly, approaching a season high and bouncing back from recent lows in December.  A similar pattern for Desperate Housewives, although Pan Am continues to flounder at season lows.  On balance, the 2.4 rating for ABC from 7-11 pm was down from a 2.7 on the same night last year.

ABC Sun    High Low  12.4 1211 1218 1225 01.1 01.8

NBC premiered The Firm last night from 9-11 pm and received a brutal 1.4 rating for the two hours.  To make matters even worse, the show started at a 1.5 from 9:00-9:30 but drifted down to a 1.3 by 10:30 pm.  It wasn’t helped by Dateline, which could only muster a 1.2 rating from 7-9 pm against the football and 60 Minutes competition on CBS.  Another disappointing new show for NBC, and now Sunday has the same profile of almost every other night of the week for NBC: it averages under a 2 rating.  Last year on this night, NBC was able to open The Cape (remember that one?) to a 2.6 rating from 9-11 pm (and only a similar 1.1 lead in from Dateline from 7-9 pm).  Year to year on the same night, NBC was down from a 1.8 last year to a 1.3 last night.

FOX animated comedies aired at or near season lows for original episodes.  The night certainly was disrupted by the football game on CBS running past 8:00 pm, and the night just never got going.  Repeats of Bob’s Burgers (0.7) and Cleveland Show (0.9) aired from 7-8 pm.  Last year, FOX had the late afternoon wild card game which built to a 15.6 rating from 7-8 pm and pushed The Simpsons to a 5.7 and Family Guy to a 4.7, giving the 7-10 pm evening a 7.8 rating (compared to a 1.9 last night).

FOX Sun    High Low  12.4 1211 1218 1225 01.1 01.8
