The Sked: SUNDAY RATINGS April 1 — CORRECTED ACM Ratings on CBS

>The ratings for the ACM Awards on CBS were understated.  The corrected numbers appear below.

CBS took a bit of a hit with the Academy of Country Music Awards, which were down over 20% 9% from last year’s telecast.  The night as a whole was up a tick from last week, leading CBS to a nightly victory with a 2.6 rating for Adults 18-49.  Three hours of Celebrity Apprentice (two back to back original episodes) lifted NBC out of fourth place into a third-place tie with an under-performing FOX.

CBS won the night with a 2.3 2.6 rating from 7-11 pm with Adults 18-9, down two tenths from last week.  60 Minutes suffered without a big sports lead in and a normal 7:00 start, averaging a 1.3 rating despite having three strong stories on the economic devastation in central Florida with the end of the manned space program, new scientific studies showing the dangers of sugar in the American diet including potential risks to cancer cell growth, and an update to the classic story about the insane market for contemporary art.  The 8-11 schedule was pre-empted for the 47th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, which averaged a 2.6 3.0 rating (down 9% from last year).  The 8 pm hour averaged a 2.6 rating (a close second place to ABC’s Once Upon a Time), but CBS took control from 9 pm onward.  The 9 pm hour averaged a 3.2 rating (six tenths ahead of second place Desperate Housewives), while 10 pm averaged a 3.3 rating (a 1.3 rating margin or 65% ahead of second place Celebrity Apprentice).  Last year on this night: 60 Minutes (1.6) and ACM Awards (3.3).

NBC was up from last week, moving into a third-place tie with FOX for the night with a 1.6 rating.  The 8 pm hour was upgraded by the addition of a third original hour of Celebrity Apprentice.  (Basically two episodes played back to back, with each episode about 90-minutes instead of the usual bloated two-hour format).  The 8-9 hour averaged a 1.5 rating, placing fourth in the hour among the broadcast networks but almost doubling the recent Harry’s Law original.  At 9 pm, Apprentice moved up to a 1.8 rating, still stuck in fourth place, however.  At 10 pm, the Donald Trump reality show finished with a 2.0 rating, good enough for second place (ahead of GCB but behind the ACM Awards).  On this night last year:  Dateline (1.0), America’s Next Great Restaurant (1.5) and Celebrity Apprentice (3.1).
