SHOWBUZZDAILY Network Scorecard – 9.21.2014

Almost there…

Daily Comp 3way 2014 SUN Sep 21

CBS:  The network used the eve of the fall TV season to launch MADAM SECRETARY.  The night started with a big boost from the 8.3 overtime of the Seattle/Denver Super Bowl rematch, which went into primetime and pushed the line-up (meaning adjustments are in store tomorrow), compared to last Sunday’s 6.7 primetime overrun.  That gave the season premiere of 60 MINUTES a 3.6, but by 9PM Madame Secretary was at 1.9, underwhelming but not unexpected.  (Also not a surprise:  it was strongest by far with older female viewers, with a 50+ share that almost quintupled its number with Men 18-49.)  It held most of its audience throughout the hour, falling from 2.0 to 1.8, which is a fair sign of a contented audience.  THE GOOD WIFE had its lowest premiere ever at 1.3, down 0.2 from last fall, although at this point, CBS knows what it’s getting with that acclaimed but little-watched series.

NBC;  The preliminary number for SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL was 7.2, a bit down from last week’s preliminary 7.6.

FOX:  The network burned off an AMERICAN DAD at 1.4 at the end of a string of animated reruns.

ABC:  Reruns, at 0.5-0.6, followed the 0.8 for AMERICA’S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS.

The season officially gets underway tonight, and naturally all the networks are all-new.  The fun starts immediately, with the 8PM showdown between THE BIG BANG THEORY (temporarily on Mondays while Thursday Night Football has its usual slot), THE VOICE, and FOX’s one big hope for the fall, GOTHAM.  Premieres and returns follow, and there is a bit of old business, as CBS and TNT respectively air summer finales for UNDER THE DOME and DALLAS.
