  1. Timeless was up a bit, but not sure if that is enough to convince NBC to bring it back for another season.

Sony paid NBC to bring it back last time and it did a fair bit better during its first season. Sony probably won’t increase on their last offer. I really wouldn’t be surprised if its quietly canceled sometime after their upfront presentation. They probably don’t want the hassle of many media websites reporting on the twitter storm that will happen if its canceled.

Sony has a new management this season, so I wonder if that has any effect.

The big NBC deal didn’t work, they lost Kevin Can Wait, and even had to cede a sizable chunk of ownership to NBC over Blacklist.

        • Destiny

So basically playing hardball has lost Sony some money makers on broadcast?. Oh and speaking of The Blacklist, with it now moving to Friday I really wouldn’t be shocked if it was announced as the final season. They basically put a show they outright owned(After a huge flop like Blindspot) at 9pm to allow it to air out its season first. Says it all.

          • FlopWatch

Yeah, like I said before, Sony lost a lot of standing this season, most likely because of their new management.

          • Destiny

They should just set up their own broadcast network. They offer such deep concessions to get their shows renewed when they wouldn’t have this problem if as said.

          • FlopWatch

And now with the new management, apparently they’re even struggling there as well.

    • FlopWatch

It’s still mostly a 0.6, that and there was around 15 minutes of golf overrun (The Masters, I think, last night).

At least we know why FOX shredded their Tuesday comedy block(Besides it being a massive failure in the ratings). Lethal Weapon is going there. I’ve said from the start NCIS hurt the show and I think FOX likely sees it the same which is why it got moved to 9pm. Maybe the loss of the entire point of the show will be offset a little without NCIS as competition. You only had to see recently how it dropped from 4.28 million, 0.9(No NCIS competition) to 3.08 million 0.7(Against a new NCIS). Some of those NCIS viewers were clearly Lethal Weapon fans but prefered to watch NCIS live.

Lethal Weapon really does have an uphill climb to convince people to stay. The first two seasons were very very very Riggs focused. Without Riggs you’ve got no show. Clearly the recasting was money motivated as WB have a lot of money invested in the show to date to just walk away.

    • FlopWatch

Yeah, getting rid of 1/2 of a main duo is a very big hurdle, this isn’t the same as losing a cast member of an ensemble to a procedural.

      • Destiny

Yeah I mean after all this is the Martin Riggs show. There’s no way anyone can avoid that. They have to literally reinvent the show, though I suspect the new guy will be the next loose canon and it’ll all go tragically wrong before being canceled.

        • FlopWatch

Yeah, it’ll have to be a reboot and everything.

          • Destiny

Speaking of which, did you see the level of negatively being thrown at Daman Wayans on twitter? Yikes. He protected his account too. Crawford fans are super mad at him as they think he caused this whole fiasco and got Crawford fired. What a mess.

It didn’t help that Wayans was being a bit of an ass about Crawford with some of his comments.

          • FlopWatch

Yeah, they really set themselves up for backlash.

          • Destiny

It has all the hallmarks of a dysfunctional production. Even the cast were silent after the show was renewed. Usually you get the whole thankyou to the fans for your support blah blah you know.

          • FlopWatch

Exactly, but probably because it would make things worse since the bts drama has become public.

  3. George

i want Lucifer back, fuck you Fox,hope someone save Lucifer.I know it didn’t have the best ratings but it was on season 3 so why not continue

    • BILL G

I agree Lucifer was a guilty pleasure that should not have been cancelled. Fox has shows with lower ratings, and they stay around forever. Fox used to be good network but with Murdock gone the network has become a shadow of itself. Lucifer was one of the few shows I watched on FOX!

  4. Amaury

Destiny, is this what you meant by fractional being renewed on Fox, but canceled on other broadcast networks? Those don’t seem like too great of numbers for Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, yet they were recently renewed. The 18–49s seem okay/mediocre—for these times, anyway—but they struggle with total viewers, it seems. Or, rather, Fox does.

As an example, both of CBS’ 60 Minutes were at 0.8 and had 8.50 and 7.45 million viewers, respectively. Yet Bob’s Burgers was also at 0.8, but only had 1.87 million viewers.

    • Destiny

The Profits > Ratings thing is also a thing too. Different networks have different standards, what’s good for one may be bad for another and so forth. And CBS generally skews super old so its no surprise.

  5. baja7475

Shield renewed! Yay! Even though very few neilsen viewers watched it live. It has been a great season. With high dvr ratings and a good international deal that probably helped the renewal.

    • Destiny

Congrats, It had sub 0.4 once before this season unrounded in the half hours too. Marvel gets their way.

  6. Destiny

I think that’s a wrap for renewals/cancelations. There’s only a few inconsequential shows left. Knowing how things have gone so far, maybe there’s another miracle renewal to come?

    • Destiny

Oh and on Wednesday they begin striking the sets on The Expanse. Although it’ll take time to conclude, it doesn’t look good if they can’t find a new home very soon. I think this was one of the most critically acclaimed shows to ever air on Syfy and it’s about to die if someone doesn’t step up soon. So sad.

    • Amaury

Champions! 😉 Nothing has been announced on that one!

      • Destiny

That genuinely surprised me. NBC does have form renewing ultra low rated sitcoms too. Just maybe..

      • Mitch Salem

In the Upfront news conference, NBC said that it wouldn’t make a final decision on Champions until the final 2 episodes air on an upcoming Friday. There’s little reason to expect anything but cancellation, but technically it’s alive until then.

        • Destiny

I can imagine you were happy with the Gotham & AoS news Mitch. Were there any surprises for you over the course of the weekend? Like shock renewals or cancelations or whatever?

          • Mitch Salem

I was surprised by the return of instinct, which hasn’t had time to put international or SVOD deals in place.

        • FlopWatch

Yeah, I’m not sure a random airing on Fridays will change the numbers for the better.
