Last night ABC dominated primetime with a preliminary 4.4 adult 18-49 rating for Notre Dame at USC.  The convincing victory for the Fighting Irish sealed a perfect 12-0 undefeated season and reserved a spot in the national championship game in January.  The game’s rating will go up to around a 5.1 in the official nationals when the west coast viewing of the live telecast is properly counted Tuesday morning, making this the highest-rated regular season college football game by far this fall.

Over on FOX, Stanford at UCLA struggled to a sad 0.5 rating Saturday night in the preliminary fast nationals, destined for a 0.7 or 0.8 in the official nationals in a few days.  That will be enough to beat the 0.5 rating from 8-11 pm on CBS (for a Made in Jersey burned-off original episode, a repeat NCIS and a 48 Hours episode) but not enough to catch NBC’s 0.9 rating for a repeat of the awful Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  (It still is utterly baffling why anyone would choose to watch a sub-standard motion picture on television interrupted by more than a dozen commercial breaks — each up to four minutes long.)
