A big sigh of relief at NBC as The Voice returned to a 4+ rating with adults 18-49 last night. There might be some inflation due to pre-emptions in Charlotte for Monday Night Football, but if NBC goes down in the official nationals it would only be a tenth of rating point. That would still be a 3.7 rating from 8-11 pm, close to the 4.0 Monday average so far this season and up significantly from last week’s atypically low Monday. CBS (3.1 rating last night) was way above its 2.5 Monday average so far this fall, with strong performances up and down the lineup thanks to a schedule change in one half hour. On the other hand, ABC (1.7 last night) fell below the 2.2 Monday average, with the unfortunate return of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (two whole hours that viewers did not want to see). FOX (1.8 night) moved above the 1.5 Monday average.
ESPN’s Monday Night Football (Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles) had an impact on the NBC fast nationals. In Charlotte (market #25, 1.00% of the US), the game was carried over the air on NBC’s WCNC 36. In Philadelphia (market #4, 2.58% of the US), the game ran on independent WPHL 17 and had no impact on any network’s fast national ratings.

The Voice moved back above a 4 rating last night, although the 4.2 fast national rating might decline to a 4.1 in the official nationals due to some Monday Night Football inflation. Revolution will probably decline to a 2.8 or even a 2.7 in the official nationals — still an okay number as it is holding the line at a high-2 rating (very solid for a 10 pm show).

One little change in the CBS lineup last night electrified the schedule. The weak link Partners was replaced by a repeat Big Bang Theory at 8:30, pushing 2 Broke Girls and Mike & Molly and even Hawaii Five-O to season highs. Leadins and audience flow still have an impact in the world of DVRs and streamed programming.

Dancing with the Stars hit a season high with its final Monday episode, but the night was ruined by two episodes of holiday-themed Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (1.3 at 9 pm and 1.2 at 10 pm). Unfortunately for ABC, this was not a one-night stunt. A few more weeks of Home Edition to come.
