AFTERNOON UPDATE: THE VOICE gained a bit of ground with an extra 0.1 in adjusted numbers, although it was still slightly behind THE BLACKLIST in total viewers (11.24M vs 11.19M). Also up 0.1: DANCING WITH THE STARS and BONES. The CBS reruns shifted as well, up 0.1 for THE BIG BANG THEORY and down the same for NCIS LA.
MONDAY CABLE: Even without Aaron McGruder, THE BOONDOCKS (Adult Swim) had a giant season premiere at 1.5 for its first new episode in almost 4 years. That was almost as high as any of last night’s CBS sitcoms (and considerably higher than already-renewed network sitcoms like BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, THE MINDY PROJECT and PARKS & RECREATION), and BOONDOCKS was even stronger in younger demos, with a 2.3 rating in Men 18-34, and 1.8 in Women 18-34–beating everything on network TV last night in those demos, including THE VOICE. It was Adult Swim’s highest-rated primetime telecast in 5 years. Also notable: the show’s re-airing at 2AM was at 0.6, a huge number for that hour. NBA PLAYOFF games on TNT again led the night at 1.7/1.5. WWE (USA) was at 1.3-1.5 over its 3 hours, down 0.2 from last week. The season finale of ARCHER (FX) may have been hurt by the arrival of THE BOONDOCKS, down 0.3 to 0.4. BATES MOTEL (A&E), also in the 10PM hour, was down 0.2 to 0.8. The VH1 line-up all remained steady from last week, including BASKETBALL WIVES (1.1), BLACK INK CREW (1.0), T.I. & TINY (0.9) and THIS IS HOT 97 (0.6).
Is The Blacklist starting to outpace The Voice?
NBC: The Peacock won the night, but it has to be getting concerned about its flagship hit THE VOICE, which hit live episodes last night and fell half a point to a Monday series low 2.9, despite very little competition on the other networks. The good news was that THE BLACKLIST was rock steady at 2.8. In fact, in the older-skewing total viewers metric, Blacklist edged out Voice, 11.19M to 11.02M.
CBS: The ugliness increased for the How I Met Your Mother-less line-up, as 2 BROKE GIRLS fell 0.2 to a new series low 2.1 and FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVES dropped 0.1 to a new low 1.7. The new episode of MIKE & MOLLY, down 0.2 to 1.9, was barely above the 1.8 for a rerun THE BIG BANG THEORY. The night ended with 1.0 for a rerun NCIS LA.
FOX: Twin 1.4s for BONES and THE FOLLOWING, both steady with last week.
ABC: DANCING WITH THE STARS fell 0.2 to 2.1, then CASTLE held even at 1.8.
CW: Both STAR-CROSSED and THE TOMORROW PEOPLE were at 0.3, which for Tomorrow was down 0.1 and tied its series low.
Both THE VOICE and AGENTS OF SHIELD will hope to benefit from an NCIS rerun on CBS tonight. Also taking the week off: ABC’s sitcoms, CHICAGO FIRE and NEW GIRL, along with the rest of the CBS line-up. On cable, MTV premieres the new high school faux-lesbian comedy FAKING IT.
