    Awful for Reign series finale

  2. Destiny

I think The Originals deserved that renewal. We’re in the opening stages of Summer and the show is still holding steady. You can’t really fault that, it has a loyal audience.

    • FlopWatch

That’s probably why they’re pitching another spinoff since most of their other shows aren’t working so they’re trying to go after an established audience.

      • CMM

I hope not. There really is nothing original about The Originals anymore. Same old witches vs. vampires vs. werewolves crap over and over, not to mention other issues.

Does the spin-off being pitched have anything to do with Caroline and Alaric’s school for supernaturals by any chance. At the moment, I can’t see any other option.

        • Destiny

We’re in uncharted territory now as the network has always canceled low rated shows after 70-80 episodes. There’s always a chance of a season 6. Will the temptation to get the show above 100 episodes be too much?

        • FlopWatch

Possibly, according to their pitch. This is the CW desperately trying to milk something with an audience since their other shows aren’t working.

      • Destiny

The problem I see with a spinoff of The Originals is that it won’t appeal much to new viewers. You’ll be looking at another low rated drag to syndication.

        • CMM

There is nothing I can see about the Originals to spin off. The Caroline/Alaric thing comes from Vampire Diaries, so we are likely looking at a spin-off of that whole world. It’s also the only spin-off I can think of that might work. It would probably be compared as being a Harry Potter for witches though. The series, Charmed, started a similar school in that show, but was never series, or never thought of as becoming one, I don’t think. Also, how old would the kids be? Alaric’s kids were like four or something last we saw them, so they would have to age them.

Anything else would have to be a witch series, a werewolf series, or another vampire series, and the witches would be the only one I could see being developed into anything, but there is currently nothing really to go ahead with on that unless it involves Yusuf Gatewood’s character (best actor on the Originals) or the character, Davina.

Agreed, it’s desperation from CW’s part because it hasn’t worked for them beyond trying to milk the superhero shows.
