THE SKED: A CBS Shuffle

CBS has reversed its previous strategy of launching GOLDEN BOY with two Tuesday airings and then moving it to the Friday 9PM slot.  Instead, the show will remain on Tuesdays, with that night’s VEGAS shifting to Fridays starting April 5 (after the network’s NCAA tournament coverage is over).

It’s a “why not?” move for CBS.  Golden Boy‘s 2 Tuesday ratings weren’t particularly impressive (1.8, then 1.6), but the show has at least a potential for growth, unlike Vegas, which has been at around the same level for most of the season.  Also, Golden Boy has a lot more fresh episodes available to air through May, while Vegas would have had to use some reruns.

None of this is great news for Vegas, of course, which will have been off the air for 6 weeks when it returns in April, and which is an awfully expensive show (what with stars Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Carrie-Ann Moss and Jason O’Mara) for low-rated Fridays.  Rather than the negligible competition of Body of Proof and Smash, it’ll also have to face NBC’s Grimm and ABC’s Shark Tank in that slot  Unless Vegas lights up the strip, it could be on the way out of town.
