THE SKED 2013 UPFRONTS: NBC Trailer – “Ironside”

We’re continuing our look at NBC’s crop of trailers for its fall shows (apart from The Blacklist, the network doesn’t seem to be releasing pieces for its midseason series right now), and next up is the return of a TV icon (for those who were watching TV in 1967):  IRONSIDE.

What becomes increasingly clear when watching the NBC trailers is how much the network wants to be CBS.  Aside from the fact that its hero is in a wheelchair, Ironside appears to be an entirely ordinary procedural cop show, complete with an abrasive but brilliant hero (Blair Underwood) who reads crime scenes and people like nobody else, his mostly anonymous team of juniors, and the clueless superiors who have to accept him for who he is.  Underwood is charismatic enough, and the show is well-partnered with Law & Order: SVU, and that’s about all there is to say about it.
