Last night’s Winter Olympic coverage from Sochi on NBC averaged a preliminary 6.4 adult 18-49 rating from 8-11 pm. Events last night included: Women’s Super Combined, Men’s Moguls, and Men’s 1500m Short Track.  If NBC excludes the 8:00 half hour (if it held national commercials until 8:30 pm), the nightly rating will be a 6.6 adult 18-49 for 150 minutes.  In terms of young adults, last night was below the 7.2 rating for the same night from Vancouver and near the 6.6 from Turin.

Through Monday night, the Sochi Games are averaging a 7.0 adult 18-49 rating, one tenth of a rating point ahead of Turin but well behind the 7.6 average at this point for Vancouver.  The last three nights of competition from Sochi have lagged the same nights in 2006 from Turin, but the enormous advantage of the Sochi Opening Ceremony has kept the overall average close.  Also, Sochi’s average was helped by a change in the Sunday night rating.  The 7:00-7:30 pm half hour was not rated, and the nightly rating moved up to a 7.2 in the official ratings this morning.
