SKEDBALL: Weekend Sports TV Ratings

The ratings below are household ratings from the 56 television markets with local Nielsen meters for Saturday June 22 and Sunday June 23, 2013. (The 56 markets out of 210 total cover about 70% of the US television population.)

The NHL playoffs continue to do very well for NBC.

NHL — Stanley Cup Final

NBC Sat 8:00 pm Boston-Chicago Game 5 4.0 rating (+54% from LA-NJ Game 5 2.6 rating Sat June 9 at 8:00 pm last year)

  • Game 5 scored a 24.4 rating and 44 share in Boston households Saturday night.  
  • In Chicago, the game did nearly as well: 22.1 rating and 43 share.
  • The other very large markets had more subdued turnout:  New York (2.8 rating / 6 share), Los Angeles (2.7 / 7), Philadelphia (2.4 / 5), Dallas (1.3 / 3), San Francisco (1.8 / 6) and Washington DC (2.1 / 5).

 

NASCAR was up versus last year.

TNT Sun 3:00 pm 3.0 rating (+11% from 2.7 rating last year)

MLB was the one big time sport this week with a substantial decline from last year.

MLB — Regular Season Week #12

FOX Sat 7:15 pm TEX-STL BOS-DET CIN-ARI LAD-SD MIN-CLE 2.4 rating (-33% from 3.3 rating last year, also 5-game regional at 7:15 pm)

  • In the top eight markets, three markets had teams involved in FOX’s five selected games.  In those markets FOX did reasonably well: Dallas (5.4 / 11), Boston (3.9 / 7) and Los Angeles (3.0 / 7).
  • In the other five markets without a dog in the hunt, ratings were dismal: New York (1.1 / 2), Chicago (0.8 / 1), Philadelphia (0.8 / 2), San Francisco (0.8 / 2) and Washington DC (1.0 / 2).
  • The best ratings for FOX baseball coverage Saturday were found in St Louis (market # 21) 12.2 rating / 23 share and Detroit (market #11) 11.9 rating / 22 share.

 

Golf was up slightly from last year thanks to a very competitive field and a one-hole playoff Sunday to settle the tournament.

GOLF — Travelers Championship

CBS Sat 3:00-6:00 pm Third Round 1.5 rating (+15% from 1.3 rating last year)

CBS Sun 3:00-6:30 pm Final Round 2.1 rating (+17% from 1.8 rating last year from 3:00-6:00 pm)

COMBINED WEEKEND COVERAGE 1.8 rating (+16% from 1.55 rating last year)
