SKEDBALL: Weekend Sports Ratings

CBS and the other networks carrying March Madness had a very good round three Sunday (round two if you are a purist and don’t count the silly “play in” games as round one).  The CBS tripleheader games yesterday were up solid double-digits looking at the household ratings from the 56 metered markets (covering about 70% of the country).  TBS and TNT were up by big margins in three out four games, while the TRU game was the only one of the day with a significant decline from the comparable game last year.  Adding all the Sunday NCAA games together, the participating networks were up 18% over the same day last year.

On the other networks, NBC was burned by bad weather in Florida that pushed most of the final round until today on the Golf Channel.  Ratings wilted 65% as the network was forced to repeat much of Saturday’s third round.

Interestingly, rain impacted the California 400 last year on FOX, shortening that race and limiting the 2012 rating.  FOX was up 32% over last year with 2013’s complete race under sunny skies.
