ESPN and MLB tinkered with the Homerun Derby format this year, adding a clock and moving to a bracket format.  It all worked, with the best persons 2+ audience for the ESPN special (7.1 million) since 2009 (8.25 million).  The younger demos (adults 18-49 and men 18-49) were only the best since 2013, but those sales demographics are much better than last year’s flagging results.  The median age moved up to 47 years (well above the 40 to 43 year range the past several years) because much of the growth last night came from men 50+.  Yet all in all, this is a nice win for MLB and ESPN.
