NETWORK UPDATE:  After adjustment for MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL preemptions, both THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT and THE GREAT HOLIDAY BAKING SHOW were 0.2 less great, respectively to 1.1 and 0.9.  On CBS, only SCORPION declined, and by 0.1.  The midseason finale of JANE THE VIRGIN also lost 0.1, without any football excuse.

CABLE HIGHLIGHTS:  Syfy’s ambitious launch of two major pieces of programming on a mid-December night went… OK.  The first 2-hour segment of CHILDHOOD’S END was at 0.43, and the premiere of THE EXPANSE (which moves to its regular timeslot tonight) was a tenth below that at 0.33.  The latter was also notably less attractive to female viewers, with just over half of CHILDHOOD’s rating in the F18-49 demo.  Any declines tonight will push these shows into the realm of clear disappointment. 

Meanwhile, the usual Monday hits took the night, led by ESPN’s MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL at 3.84, although that was down a big 0.97 from last week’s game.  On VH1, LOVE & HIP HOP was up 0.17 to 1.49, and BLACK INK CREW returned after a week off at 0.90.  On USA, WWE was at 1.40-1.29 over its 3 hours, far better than last week’s 1.09-1.00.  On Bravo, VANDERPUMP RULES shed 0.05 to 0.61, and APRES SKI was also down 0.05 to 0.21.  The season finale of FX’s brilliant FARGO gratifyingly surged by 0.12 to 0.49.  On TNT, MAJOR CRIMES was up 0.02 to 0.44, and LEGENDS was steady at 0.13.
