NETWORK UPDATE:   CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD and BIG BROTHER each gained 0.1 in final numbers, as did the reruns of CSI and BOB’S BURGERS, but the rerun of MADAM SECRETARY fell by 0.2, and GOLAN THE INSATIABLE lost 0.1. 

CABLE HIGHLIGHTS:  The BET AWARDS were the night’s big winner, with 2.64 for the awards show itself, and 1.39 for the post-show and 0.74 for the pre-show.  However, the awards were down almost half a point from last year’s 3.13.  TRUE DETECTIVE held up beautifully for HBO, down just 0.09 in its 2d week to 1.33, and with a cliffhanger that should guarantee viewers will return for the next installment.  Elsewhere on HBO, BALLERS lost 0.21 of its premiere rating but was still strong at 0.89, THE BRINK fell 0.11 to 0.55, and LAST WEEK TONIGHT dropped 0.06 to 0.49.  On Showtime, the series finale of NURSE JACKIE rose 0.08 to 0.25, the season (?) finale of HAPPYISH was up a tick to 0.08 but performed better with total viewers, up 64K to 261K, and PENNY DREADFUL slipped 0.02 to 0.20.  The season finale of SALEM (WGNAmerica) gained 0.03 to 0.14.  On AMC, HUMANS had a solid start at 0.53, but it only boosted HALT AND CATCH FIRE by 0.03 to 0.18.  On TNT, THE LAST SHIP had a healthy 0.16 increase to 0.85, and the season premiere of FALLING SKIES was at 0.50, less than half of last June’s 1.03 season premiere.  On the unscripted side, NAKED AND AFRAID (Discovery) added 0.12 to 0.88.  FOOD NETWORK STAR rose 0.06 to 0.65, with lead-in GUY’S GROCERY GAMES up 0.04 to 0.42, and lead-out CUTTHROAT KITCHEN  up a tenth to 0.52.  On E!, BOTCHED jumped 0.14 to 0.57, but RICHKIDS OF BEVERLY HILLS only rose a hundredth to 0.22.  BAR RESCUE (Spike) gained a tenth to 0.53.  The highest rated sports event was NASCAR on Fox Sports 1 at 0.76.
