OSCARLAND: SHOWBUZZDAILY’s Complete and “Final” Oscar Predictions

The following are my final predictions for the 2014 Academy Awards (you can find a much more detailed analysis for all the major categories in our Why and Why Not? posts).  Keep in mind:  (a) I’m often wrong, (b) these are predictions and not my personal choices (Go, Team Her!), (c) the Academy loves to throw some curveballs (Crash, anyone?), and (d) although I’m calling these “final,” there are some categories–Best Picture and Supporting Actress, to name two–where I’m likely to flip-flop up until the time the envelope is opened.  That being said, have I mentioned that I’m often wrong?

BEST PICTURE:  12 Years a Slave

BEST DIRECTOR:  Alfonso Cuaron

BEST ACTOR:  Matthew McConaughey

BEST ACTRESS:  Cate Blanchett

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:  Jared Leto

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:  Lupita Nyong’o

BEST ORIGINAL SCRIPT:  American Hustle

BEST ADAPTED SCRIPT:  12 Years A Slave

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE:  Frozen

BEST FOREIGN-LANGUAGE FILM:  The Great Beauty

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE:  20 Feet From Stardom

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY:  Gravity

BEST FILM EDITING:  Captain Phillips

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN:  The Great Gatsby

BEST COSTUME DESIGN:  American Hustle

BEST SCORE:  Gravity

BEST ORIGINAL SONG:  “Let It Go”

BEST MAKE-UP AND HAIRSTYLING:  Dallas Buyers Club

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS:  Gravity

BEST SOUND EDITING:  Gravity

BEST SOUND MIXING:  Gravity

BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT:  Just Before Losing Everything

BEST ANIMATED SHORT:  Get A Horse!

BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT:  The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life
