“Iron Man 3” Flies High With $15.6M Thursday Night Boxoffice

With $345M already in the bank from its giant overseas openings (that includes an all-time opening day record in China), IRON MAN 3 (Disney) turned its metallic gaze to the US last night, and had a huge $15.6M in evening/midnight screenings.  That was a bit below than the $18.7M Thursday night for The Avengers (which had only midnight screenings), but it more than doubled the $7.5M Iron Man 2 pre-Friday screenings.  That’s in line with the general expectation that Iron 3‘s opening weekend will be closer to Avengers‘ $207.4M than to Iron 2‘s $128.1M opening.

Today’s numbers to watch:  Iron Man 2‘s first full opening day was at $51.2M , while The Avengers launched with $80.8M.
