INTERNATIONAL BOX OFFICE REPORT March 15-17

Oz the Great and Powerful had a very good week overseas, up $67 million to $137 million foreign to date and almost $400 million total projected worldwide.  It should approach $600 million worldwide, ending up at around #5 on our chart.

The other significant gainer this past week was A Good Day to Die Hard, up $23 million this week to $200 million overseas to date and approaching $300 million worldwide.

Down at the bottom of the chart this week we have added some summary lines to show how concentrated international box office is in the hit films.  The 10 films the past six months have grossed almost $2.1 billion in North America, while those films have grossed almost twice that amount overseas ($3.9 billion).  The next 20 films (ranked 11-30) have grossed a fairly similar $1.6 billion in North America but only about the same amount overseas ($1.8 billion).  For the other 47 films (ranked 31-77) there is virtually no overseas market: fully $1.2 billion domestic and only $361 million overseas.
