As is traditionally the case, movie boxoffice declined sharply on December 24, the lowest ebb of the holiday period.  According to Deadline, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL (Paramount) remains #1, with $5.6M on Saturday, a 40+% fall from Friday.  Similarly, SHERLOCK HOLMES:  A GAME OF SHADOWS (Warners) fell around 45% to $3.8M on Saturday.  ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS:  CHIPWRECKED (20th) was down almost 50% to $2.8M

This week’s openings continued to run below last week’s.  THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (Sony) slumped a full 50% on Saturday to $2.3M.  It was followed by THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN (Paramount), currently reported as a more modest 35% drop, also to $2.3M.  The last of the pack is WE BOUGHT A ZOO (20th), down 40% to a sadly uninspiring $1.8M
Business should recover on Christmas Day (which will be fueled as well by the arrivals of WAR HORSE and THE DEADLIEST HOUR), and then hit its holday high point on Monday.  Stay with SHOWBUZZDAILY all through the holiday season for updated boxoffice numbers and analysis!
