Holiday Box Office Volume: through December 30

For the 15 days December 16-30, the top 10 films each day in North America have totaled $825 million, now -12% below last year’s record pace but +42% above the average since 2002.

December 29 has averaged $41.0 million since 2002 when the date has fallen on a weekday and $50.8 million when it has fallen on a weekend.  Last year December 29 (on a Tuesday) added up to $55.6 million for the top 10.  Thursday December 29, 2016 is $53.3 million for the top 10 films in North America.

December 30 has averaged $40.7 million since 2002 when the date has fallen on a weekday and $48.1 million when it has fallen on a weekend.  Last year December 30 (on a Wednesday) added up to $54.8 million for the top 10. Friday December 30, 2016 looks like $60.8 million.

December 31 has averaged $36.5 million since 2002 when the date has fallen on a weekday and $37.9 million when it has fallen on a weekend.  Last year December 31 (on a Thursday) added up to $46.9 million for the top 10.

January 1 has averaged $45.0 million since 2002 when the date has fallen on a weekday and $57.5 million when it has fallen on a weekend.  Last year January 1 (on a Friday) added up to $76.4 million for the top 10.

January 2 has averaged $27.0 million since 2002 when the date has fallen on a weekday and $53.4 million on a weekend. Last year January 2 (on a Saturday) added up to $78.4 million for the top 10.
