Holiday Box Office Volume: through December 25

For the 10 days December 16-25, the top 10 films each day in North America have totaled $503 million, still -16% below last year’s record pace but a healthy +56% above the average since 2002.

Saturday December 24, 2016 totaled $35.0 million for the top 10 films, above the $20.9 million Dec 24 has averaged since 2002 when the date has fallen on a weekend and near the $36.5 million for the top 10 for Dec 24 last year (on a Thursday).

Sunday December 25, 2016 totaled $76.0 million for the top 10, above the $62.5 million Dec 25 has averaged since 2002 when the date has fallen on a weekend.  Last year December 25 (on a Friday) added up to $95.8 million for the top 10.   

December 26 has averaged $53.0 million since 2002 when the date has fallen on a weekday and $69.1 million when it has fallen on a weekend.  Last year December 26 (on a Saturday) added up to $100.9 million for the top 10.  Current studio estimates have the top 10 for Monday December 26, 2016 looking like $87.7 million.

December 27 has averaged $42.5 million since 2002 when the date has fallen on a weekday and $63.1 million when it has fallen on a weekend.  Last year December 27 (on a Sunday) added up to $76.6 million for the top 10.
