The 2014 holiday box office has pulled slightly ahead 2013 and remains somewhat above the average for the last decade or so.

The top 10 films on Saturday January 3, 2015 totaled a very good $46.8 million, somewhat above the average $42.5 million for the days since 2002 when this date landed on a weekend.  When January 3 last fell on a Saturday, the day’s top 10 films added up to a similar $47.2 million in 2008 and a somewhat lower $44.7 million in 2003.

The 19 days December 16-January 3 total $738 million this year, now +8.7% ahead of the average for this period the last 12 years and now slightly ahead of the same period last year (+0.8%).
