Night 3 of the Democratic National Convention (President Obama, Senator Tim Kaine and VP Joe Biden speaking) attracted 23.7 million viewers 2+ across the three broadcast networks and three major cable new channels, down 1.1 million from Night 2 (but that is a fairly typical decline for the DNC on Night 3).  In contrast, the RNC traditionally builds audience substantially on this night (up around 3 million viewers from Night 2 to Night 3 two of the last three cycles).  Nevertheless, last night is still ahead of Night 3 of the RNC last week and ahead of the Night 3 pace for the last two DNC events.

2016 DNC average of Nights 1-3.  Similarly, the 2016 DNC through Wednesday is pacing well ahead of the RNC last week and ahead of any other convention the last two cycles.

CNN remains on top of the other networks in terms of total viewers and 25-54 year-olds favored by news advertisers.  NBC and MSNBC are in 2nd and 3rd place, while Fox News (which won last week’s race covering the RNC handily, as it usually does) remains in last place this week.
